Load Excel Data using DTS NULL error

Hi!
I am loading data from Excel file, with three columns Varchar(5), Float and
Char(6).
When I execute DTS I am getting few NULL values for first column
(Varchar(5)). There is a appropriate data in Excel file. I checked in DTS
Preview, it is also showing Null values for that.
Thanks,
Sam
Not sure what your question us here? Do you mean there arent really nulls
but sql thinks there is? Do you mean there are null values and sql wont
allow them?

|||Chris,
Thanks for the reply. This problem got fix temporarily, as the person who
gave me this excel file, he said there was some formula involved. Anyway the
problem I am describing below:
Example:
Column1 - Location list 1, 2, 3, ...10.
Column 2 - Location Name A, B, C,...D
I tried to load both columns and found in the preview that 3 and 7 are
giving NULL values.
Thanks,
Sam

Loack during dimension processing

Hello!

I recieve the following error message when processing dimensions in a scheduled dts package:

Description: Processing within a transaction
Step Error code: 80040024
Step Error Help File:
Step Error Help Context ID:1000440

To me it seems like the dimensions are locked by another task, probably a cube processing.
The strange thing is that I have dependencies in my dts package, so that the cube processing shouldn't start until the dimensions are processed and every dimension comes from different tables.

Anyone with similar problems? Any suggestions for further error searching?

Grateful for every info!Can you run the dts interactively?|||Yes, never any problem with that...

LKP : configure error output “ERROR”

Hi,

In a mapping I have two look up’s before setting the configure error output “ERROR” as ignore failure, the job was stopped with an error message “Row yield no match”.

Now that I had changed the error as ignore failure the job is successful but only concern here is will the destination table get inserted with those records which are not matched in look up.

If you don't want those 'no-match' rows going into the destination; then use 'redirect' and leave the red flag unconnected if you want just to ignore them or connect it to a flat file or other destination if you want to inspect those rows after the processes finish|||

i just wanted to ignore those records which do not match the join condition. load only those records which meet the condition given in each look up.

so i need to make the ERROR column from configure error output as ignore.

and do i need to set up the ignore for each source column .

|||As Rafael said, if you want to discard rows that don't find a match in the lookup, set the error handling to "Redirect Row". This will send the rows to the error output (the red one). You can discard them by simply not connecting the red output to any other pipeline components.

This looks like a setup issue. Did you have a prior build of SQL/VS 2005 on the machine? If so, likely the machine wasn't cleaned up prior to setting up.

I upgraded from VS 2005 Beta 2 to VS 2005 RC, but I followed all recommended uninstallation steps prior to installing VS 2005 RC.
So what can I do about this?
Will it help at all to completely uninstall VS 2005 RC and then reinstall it?
I've already tried repairing VS 2005 RC, but it didn't make any difference.

Hi-Thank you for the info. When I ran the 1st command regsvr32 msxml3.dll, it went fine. The 2nd command regsvr32 msxml6.dll told me "The specific module could not be found" I am getting errors like: Interface not registered (when I try to print), No such interface supported (when I tried to contact NoAdware for online support). Also, get same message when I try to go into a game room on Yahoo games. Please note: I just did a scan to remove adware and spyware.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me,

Corinne

|||

It looks like the software you used to "remove adware and spyware" removed much more - apparently it deleted msxml6.dll (which is installed with SQL Server 2005) and probably some interface registrations.

I would recommend reformatting and reinstalling this machine and avoiding this antispyware program in the future.

|||

Hi, I have the exact same problem but it is when I try to burn a cd using Win Media Player 10. I tried registering the .dll's, but since I don't have the SQL 2005 installed in my machine, the regsvr32 msxml6.dll gives me the same error message. I see that this forum is mainly for SQL but if anybody knows what I can do, it would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason

|||

Hi there, di you get a reply to your query as I am experiencing the same problem. Please e-mail me & let me know. Many thanks

|||

Guys, there are thousands of interfaces registered on a typical Windows box. The error can be caused by missing registration of any of them.

We've found that particular problem ("Interface not registered" error when creating new SSIS project) is usually caused by incorrectly registered msxml dlls - my reply above describes how to fix it.

Regarding other applications - like media player, etc - there is no common answer, and you should be looking at the support forums for particular application.

|||

Quote 'I would recommend reformatting and reinstalling this machine and avoiding this antispyware program in the future.'

If I had to re-format every time something is not registering in Windows - that would be all I would be doing -Re-formatting...

Would re-installing SQL fix the problem.

Listing all scheduled tasks on a server

I am trying to use

However I get an error saying the stored proc does not exist. Is it not installed by default or is it possibler it was deleted somehow?

Is there another way I can extract all my scheduled tasks so that I can produce a SQL script to automate their re-creation if they get deleted?

I am using SQL 7 and got this SP from bol.

ListChildren Error

If I call the ListChildren() in ReportingService2005, and the network is
connected, it works great.
If I call the ListChildren() in ReportingService2005, and the network is not
connected, I get a really ugly exception.
I'd like to find an API in ReportingService2005 to detect if reporting
services is running and accessible on the SQL server before calling
ListChildren from the client. Any suggestions on what to call before calling
ListChildren?
Thanks
--
RandyHi Randy,
Thank you for posting.
As for the ListChildren method, it is one of the webservice function of the
ReportingService2005 service class, and so far there is no built-in
methods for check the service connection status or availability.
#ReportingService2005 Methods
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.wssux.reportingserviceswe
bservice.rsmanagementservice2005.reportingservice2005_methods(SQL.90).aspx
Actually, since webservice method call is tranferred over underlying
transport protocol(normally it is http), so this should be done by our own
application's code to check the protocol connection wellness. For example,
in our application which call the webservice methods, we can use exception
block (try...catch...) to capture any exception when perform webservice
call to the SSRS service, if any underlying exception occurs( like http 500
service unavailable error), we can get that the service is currently not
available.

One way of avoiding duplicate names (I believe usually SQL tells you this if a table already exists) is to add different words to the beginning of the table name like "TheCustomers" or "TheUsers" - adding "the" at the start on 99% of occasions avoids name clashes with SQL data tables.

In BOL (Books On Line) you can read about the rules for identifiers (ie what a 'legal' table/column name may look like) and BOL also has a list of reserved keywords.

Search for 'Using identifiers' for the namingrules, in BOL 2k there's a link on that page to 'Reserved Keywords'.

these are actually reserve keywords

but you can actually use them as table name if you qualify it

with quotes or square brackets as shown in the example below

create table [return]
(
field1 varchar(200),
field2 varchar(200)
)

select * from [return]

drop table [return]

Yes, it's true that with square brackets you can have something named [1234] even though that is an illegal name according to the naming rules for identifiers.

I'm not too keen on using this 'backdoor' just to do stuff that you shouldn't do in the first place, so I never mention it. =;o)
If you decide to do this just because it's possible to do so, or as the first resort, it will bite you, likely sooner than later. There is no turning back.
Once an illegal name is in there (by virtue of square bracketing), all references from that moment must also be done by square bracketing.. (similar to nullhandling in a sense) or you may be facing spending some considerate time hunting for mysterious errors, that may be just someone who forgot the brackets...

List of SQL Server Error Messages

Hi All,
I was wondering if anybody knows where to get a complete list of SQL Server error messages. I am writing a stored procedure that scans SQL Server Logs for errors and if there are errors in the logs, I get paged.
Thanks.Personally, I just look for keywords. Like "error".|||books online has a lot extremely unhelpful descriptions unser Troubleshooting --> Error Messages --> Error Message Descriptions --> System Error Messages.|||there is a table sysmessages in master db|||That's great. But besides the error messages I am also looking for messages in the SQL Server logs such as SQL Server terminating, backup failed, scheduler appears to be hung etc. I found these messages in the SQL Server logs and would like to get a list of all the possible messages that can be found in the logs.
