Little Lock Symbols

WE are new to SQL Server 2005. My team memebers and I have the same login-in
as a group. One member developed some stored procedure code that I am trying
to review , but there are thse little lock symbols on the file icon. how can
I see the file?
Do you mean when you open the file in Management Studio, the tab at the top
has a lock icon? This means the file is read-only, possibly because it is
checked into source control. If this is not what you are talking about,
then you can explain (a) where you see the lock, and (b) what it means that
you can't "see" the file?

Yes, if you hold your mouse over the green check you decided to click, you
will see that means "parse" (syntax check). The success message means that
the command didn't have any syntax errors.

Are you sure your query is running in the correct database? When you
right-clicked "the database" was it db_ReportSource, or some other database?
Are you sure you were in an Object Explorer context of the correct server?
What happens when you execute the following in a properly created New Query
window:
USE db_ReportSource;
GO
EXEC SQL_myquery;
GO
EXEC dbo.SQL_myquery;
GO
?

No, from your earlier description, this is a stored procedure in a database.
There are many differences between a stored procedure in the database and a
file in the file system. They are certainly not the same, and a file
somewhere on your network is certainly not going to magically appear under
the stored procedures node in object explorer.

First of all, it is not a file. It's an object in a database, and there
should indeed be a file for it in the file system, or even better in
the version-control system. But if you co-worker just created the procedure
in a query window, and then closed the window without saving it, there is
no file at all. Just an object in a database.
Normally, though, stored procedures can be disassembled from the database
so you can edit them, which is popular in teams that don't believe in
files or version-control systems.
But this small lock indicates that you can't. There are two possible reasons
for this:
o The procedure was created with the clause WITH ENCRYPTION.
o It is a stored procedure created in a CLR language such as VB .Net or C#.
If you right-click the procedure and selecr Properties, you might be
able to deduce which of the cases it is. If there things like "Property
AnsiNullsStatus is not available..." it is a CLR stored procedure.
In either cases, you will have to ask your co-worker where he has the
source code.

Erland might have hit it on found the solution as the file properties do
seem to be encrypted. This is something we will have to discuss withthe

Under properties in the Options section the file has Encrypted set to TRUE
and Replication set to FALSE also ( I guess which means I could not copy the
file which I tried to do also.)
We are baby new to this and I have to bring this up to the author of the
code and to our new “Weekly user group” . Both of which are out today, but
thank you for the info! This is helpful.
I will also suggest we start using Source Safe for version control.
Thanks!

No, replication and copying a file are not the same thing.

list's visibility dependable on expression doesn't pagebreak

The report has a "first page".
After this comes a list element with a subreport.
This list is grouped and each group element should be printed on a new page
(43 pages).
This works perfectly in HTML and PDF
We introduced a boolean parameter to express, if we want to see only the
first page or the first page AND also the 43 pages from the list.
So the list's visibility was made dependable on the boolean parameter.
If the user checks to NOT to see the 43 pages, the list is hidden and only
the first page shows up, ok, good.
But the moment the user wants to see the list, there occur NO pagebreaks in
HTML.
And in PDF the first pagebreak does not occur.
I tried for hours a lot of things, but no chance.
The moment the list's visibility is made dependable on an expression, the
pagebreaks do not work anymore.
Things I tried that did not work:
- insert a rectangle in various ways in the list and break before or after it
- insert a table with pagebreak before or after it
- insert a table and inside it a rectangle in a group and pagebreak on the
rectangle

I understand that when you try to use the expression to control the
visability of your list, the page break inside the list will disappear.
This is confirmed to be a by design issue and did not have any workaround
yet.
However, in SQL 2008, product team is considering add the expression to
control the page break and this will may resolve your issue.
Hope this helps.

To retrieve the create date of a table you will need to query the sysobjects
system table. The following example illustrates a query that returns the
table name and the creation date of the table:
USE northwind
GO
SELECT name, crdate
FROM dbo.sysobjects
WHERE xtype = 'U' -- User table

Listing AD group members

Hello,
I'd like to create a report in Reporting Services 2000 listing the
members of a given Active Directory group.
I found on the internet a vbs-script to retrieve the information
needed:
Set objGroup = GetObject("LDAP://CN=MyGroup,OU=MyOU,DC=MyDC")
For Each objUser in objGroup.Members
Wscript.Echo "Name: " & objUser.DisplayName
Next
This script works fine.
However, I'm not very familiar with VBS-programming (and not with
custom code in Reporting Services either...)
How do I create a report that presents the result from the query?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
WillyI've been working on a solution, but I'm stuck
In the Report Properties window on the Code tab I've entered the
following code:
Shared Function GetMembersByGroupSQL As String
Dim objGroup As Object
Dim objUser As Object
Dim strQuery As String
objGroup = GetObject("LDAP://CN=MyGroup,OU=MyOU,DC=MyDC")
For Each objUser In objGroup.Members
strQuery = "SELECT Naam = '" & objUser.DisplayName & "'"
Next
Return strQuery
End Function
(I realize I have to alter the For Each construction, in the end I
need strQuery to be something like
SELECT Naam='John' UNION SELECT Naam='Mary' UNION...
For now, only the last row will be returned.)
I've created a new dataset with command type set to 'Text' and entered
the following
= Code.GetMembersByGroupSQL
I've also added a field called 'Naam'.
When I run a report based on this dataset displaying name I get the
following error:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Get Online Help
Cannot set the command text for data set 'dsGebruikersPerGroep'.
(rsErrorSettingCommandText) Get Online Help
Error during processing of the CommandText expression of dataset
'dsGebruikersPerGroep'. (rsQueryCommandTextProcessingError) Get Online
Help
There's something wrong with my VB code, because when I replace the
existing code with the following, all works fine:
Shared Function GetMembersByGroupSQL As String
Dim strQuery As String
strQuery = "SELECT Naam = 'John'"
Return strQuery
End Function
It seems like the following line of code is the problem: objGroup =GetObject("LDAP://CN=MyGroup,OU=MyOU,DC=MyDC")
I've tested the code in a vbs-script and it worked fine. Do I need to
add references to assembly's and/or classes to make it work?
Kind regards, Willy
